SUSTAINABILITY

THIS IS OUR JOURNEY
KATE JUNE is a contemporary Dutch fashion brand dedicated to irresistible confidence, joy and urban femininity. Our aim is to make women feel great and to inspire them to celebrate each other through eye-catching fashion items.

The truth is: we don’t pretend to be the most sustainable brand (fashion can’t be 100% eco-friendly) but we are dedicated to minimize our impact on the planet and maximizing our positive impact on humanity and nature. Navigating the ever-evolving landscape of sustainability is hard, but we are committed to make better choices every day and to become the most aware and responsible version of ourselves. Nowadays there’s no excuse not to try to be the best version of yourself.

At KATE JUNE we design our own collections. In every stage of the production process we take environmental issues into account. We are always on the lookout for innovating techniques to produce fashionable items who are a great addition to your closet for a long period of time. Fabrics and materials are carefully chosen to last throughout all seasons. Sustainability is about more than just sustainable materials. Good working conditions for everyone involved in our production proces is an important pillar at KATE JUNE. Our social responsibility reaches across borders.

We are committed using socially responsible, environmentally friendly and sustainable production processes. By regularly visiting our manufacturers and suppliers, we are able to monitor how the regulations are being followed. All of our partner factories have either BSCI, SA 8000, SEDEX or WRAP certification.

At KATE JUNE we work with our suppliers on a long-term basis. That is the best way for us to monitor all aspects of the production process and hold each other accountable. We want our products to be made by people that work under safe conditions. KATE JUNE and all of our factories are granted the AMFORI Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) certification. BSCI is the European social monitoring system for ethical sourcing operation worldwide. For a company to become a member it must pass an audit process and meet all requirements set out in the Code of Conduct.

The 11 principles of the Code of Conduct that BSCI participants commit to implement in their supply chains are:

    • No Discrimination
    • Fair Remuneration
    • Decent Working Hours
    • Occupational Health and Safety
    • No Child Labour
    • Protection of Young Workers
    • Social responsability
    • No Bonded Labour
    • Protection of the Environment
    • Ethical Business Behaviour

We expect all our new suppliers to become a member of BSCI and start an audit.

CLOSE TO HOME
The environmental effects of shipping are unfortunately burdensome for the environment. At KATE JUNE we are committed to make processes more sustainable. By shipping our items in 100% recycled plastic bags, recycled boxes, and using efficient logistics, we minimize our footprint as much as possible.

RETURNS
The best way to make returns environmentally friendly is by preventing them. Our size chart helps our customers finding the right size. We also ask our customers the reasons for their returns so we can find new ways to prevent returns.

UNITED WE STAND
There are multiple ways you, as a customer, can contribute to an environmentally friendly and sustainable fashion industry. KATE JUNE created a list of tips of how to enjoy your items. We want to inspire our customers to handle all our items with the utmost care, so they will last long.

  • Wash your clothes less often and by hand
  • Wash on low temperature
  • Avoid using a tumble dryer as much as possible
  • Use a hand steamer instead of an iron
  • Learn how to sew in order to make small repairs yourself.
  • Use the spare buttons

DRY INDIGO
Did you know that 8000 liters of water and 10 kilos of chemical dyes is needed in order to produce one pair of jeans? Luckily someone found a solution to that. The Dry Indigo method, founded by Rejidos Royo, is one of the ways KATE JUNE tries to limit its ecological footprint. It’s a new technique in the world of denim where the fabric is produced without any water, 90% less chemicals and top energy saving. Do you want to know more about Dry Indigo, click here.
